The Mesmerizing Tale of the Tiger King

As I scrolled through the endless rows of new shows and movies being put on Netflix, I started to think I wasn’t going to find anything decent to watch. However, when the words Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness flashed on my screen alongside a pierced, tattooed, blonde mullet-bearing cowboy holding up a tiger cub, I knew I’d found something worth checking out.

Although not entirely child-friendly, the Tiger King is bound to have you on the edge of your seat. This seven-episode long Netflix original documentary follows Joseph Maldonado-Passage, also known as Joe Exotic: the Tiger King, and the wild life of big animal zoo owners. If Joe’s personality isn’t enough to reel you in, the absurd drama definitely will. The initial question posed by the show explores a conflict between Joe and his main antagonizer, Carole Baskin. Joe is alleged to have hired a hit man to kill Carole after many years of battling over the morality of the possession of tigers. However, as the name suggests, the show only gets more interesting as it goes on, introducing a new controversy with every episode. How did Carole’s husband die? Is Joe guilty of unthinkable crimes? Is the mysterious Jeff Lowe a friend or a foe? Find out in Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness.
